UNIT 16 of my assignment focuses on
various work experience activities at WMC,
designed to help me learn new concepts and
develop skills within the creative industry. I
will be working across the following creative
departments: Stage Lighting and Sound,
Events Management, and Security.
Additionally, I have had the opportunity to
collaborate with the Creative VR department
and other creative teams.
I will be researching into WMC to gather a
better understanding of the type of art centre,
that I will be working within.
Introduction
WMC is a cultural landmark. Since opening in 2004, it’s been a lively spot
for performances like opera and dance. Home to various arts
organizations, it’s all about creativity and community. It’s a proud symbol of
Welsh culture.

Week 2: SoundOperation
I learnt how sound can change the context of content, we were shown an example of this through Toy Story 2, the
scene expressed joy with joyful sounds, and then it all changed when it was switched over to more gothic themes, with
gothic sound effects.
-Given a basis on how to utilize various different
event operation gadgets, that revolve around
manipulating sound
-I participated with people part of my group, we were
instructed to create a video that showed how sound can
change the context and the whole concept of a scene.
- Taught how music and sound is used to
manipulate emotional engagement, and
make content more engaging
-Learnt how powerful frequencies can
be
-Half of the group members, also sang on the
stage, and the other half of us assisted, by
helping to rig lights, adjust sound, etc..
Week3:LightOperation
Part 1:
We learned about different types of plugs, including "male plugs," their functions, and the basics of how to set them
up.
Part 2:
We then took a tour of the upper levels of back stage, and even got to change the color of the WMC building lights
to green, and when we were on the upper levels of the building, we walked up some stairs and on to these chain
things high-up, and it felt as if we were walking in the sky—it was amazing! Once we reached the other side after
walking through the sky, we went up these stairs, which took us to the roof!
Part 3:
We then did a quick group stage story, and tweaked the story script a little, and it was only a small fraction of the
story we did, and we were shown how flashlights are used in plays and on stage.
Week4:EventsManagement
-Discussed about
potential event
concepts with the
whole group
-Instructed about basic
event safety, and
safety protocols
-Learnt about event
management
-Created our own concept
events—mine was about
cross dressing!
-Learnt about how
important fire alarm
drills are
-We all got into sub-
teams, to create out
concept event
-We made my own concept event in groups
Week5:EventSecurity
(PART 1)
PART 1: Theory Towards the end of the day, our
event security teacher Wez,
provided some basic insight as
towards what will be doing the
following day, about securing a
certain someone.
We all made a few jokes about all
of this, and asked a couple
questions, we were told if we
disclose anything about this on
social media, then this whole thing
will be cancelled, and asked us to
take this seriously.
At the end, he told us he'll provide
all the information he needs to
tomorrow.
-Watched celebrity security
videos
-Watched paparazzi videos
and paparazzi attempts
-Saw some censored
terrorism attempts
-Brought awareness about
potential terrorism threats
-Shown around fire exit areas,
and emergency areas of
WMC
-Discussed basic event safety
and event security
-Learnt about event safety
PART 2:Practical
Phase 1: Overview
We received an overview from Wez about what each team will be doing, along with our specific tasks. We were
also assigned code names and given instructions on how to use the necessary gadgets for each task.
Phase 2: Plan
All of us began to plan what we were doing and had discussions about our roles. I, myself, created a well-
documented plan, complete with drawings, sketches, steps, and information on what me and my team members
would be doing.
I was assigned to the escort team.
Phase 3: Operation
My team and I waited outside. I alerted everyone that the client had arrived and informed the team that the client
was about to park. The security team carefully assisted her out of the car, while we observed the area to ensure no
one was lurking with ill intent. My team and I followed the other team to provide additional security for the client.
Once the client was safely inside, we went outside to ensure her car was secure and that no one was nearby. We
waited until she finished her meeting with Wez and ensured her safety when she left. Afterwards, it was a job well
done!
On this week we learnt, about GVR, VR, AR, MR, and more.
We played some VR games, went on an Augmented Reality trip, saw
prospectives, and learnt lots of different interesting things about VR, it was
really fun, interesting, and educational!
